Today my “old” contractor managed to quit without saying the actual words. He claims he found this blog and a customer also saw it and was “upset”. I’ll give anyone $5.00 if you can tell me who the customer is and what exactly is so “upsetting”! Anyway, last check written today – and it feels good!
Pedro did come today – I swear I went by there yesterday and that monster tree was standing – today it is nearly gone. He will probably finish it today. Amazing!
This is the pine tree that is 4 billion feet tall, two trees growing out of one with a giant rotten diseased spot in the middle.
I surely hope I didn’t upset Pedro with this post. I even used his whole first name.
Yep, that’s right. OF’s taking yet another vacation. Let’s see what has been accomplished since the last vacation:
Now, I don’t have a picture of the back door storm door yet. Since no doorknobs of mine will be installed at this juncture because I guess “we” would rather I just drive around with a damn truckload of doorknobs and deadbolts, the back door is screwed shut and I haven’t walked around the house to the backyard lately since I have been busy with hissy fits inside the house, then storming home. Those are exhausting.
Anyway, so in 9 days, not including weekends or the first Monday when no one showed up, “we” have accomplished putting up two columns, a door, and a storm door, plus putting a doggie door in the storm door. The last 6 pieces of siding were put up as well. Nine days. I think there is some passive-aggressive behavior going on here.
One column on the front porch is up:
And the back door came in and is sitting in its new home – those awful sliding doors are GONE! Actually, they weren’t quite as awful once the s-nephew pulled that flowery sticker stuff off of them, but still, this is an improvement:
And no pictures, but there was a massive rain storm yesterday so there was water flowing into the bathroom through the light fixture into the new tub, which of course doesn’t have a drain or anything so it just went through the hole where the drain would be and got the entire subfloor soaked. Great!
What have we accomplished while DB was on vacation? We’ve painted the entire house, less some touch ups that need to be done. “We’ve” meaning Alan has put up 4 ceiling fans and two light fixtures on his birthday, no less, so kudos to my brother. And if you’re wondering if I paid him anything, I did buy the niece $60 worth of shorts for the summer so we are counting that as payment. We all win. Oh, also kudos to the s-nephew who was an awesome helper today – aside from his constant practical jokes, he was a trooper and didn’t complain unlike the nephew who would have bitched the entire day about having to do work. Plus, kudos to the s-niece who helped paint today. I’m a-scared to tell the niece that all the painting is done since she threatened her grandmaw with violence if we didn’t let her paint. Sorry!
NF did run into a few problems with the cabinets – mostly stemming from the fact that the company sent us the wrong piece for one thing and didn’t send some of the slide-out shelves for the pantry, then we needed one more piece of crown molding to finish up so all of that has been ordered/re-ordered and he can finish up then. He may have also left the crayon that you use to fill in the nail holes in the molding in his truck and it may have melted so he may have had to order another one of those, too. AND his assistant may have screwed up putting the drawer pull on the trashcan drawer so that door may have been re-ordered, too. But once all of that comes in, it will be finished! It looks great!
The front door has two coats of paint on it so far and I know it needs at least one more, if not two. However, it is NOT the color of the paint swatch that is on my ring of paint swatches. I picked a dark red and this was looking really pink. After the second coat, I still think it looks a little pink up close, but hopefully after I finish it off with another coat or two, it will look like the right color!
DB went on vacation for the week. Before he left, we had our second “come to Jesus” meeting. The first one took place the day I had to pay the mf’ing IRS and SC Dept of Revenue way more money than I had expected PLUS estimated quarterlies for this year which, of course, eats into my house budget. If you know me, you know that I will usually only afford people one of these “meetings”. Some people I don’t even allow the one. Occasionally I will allow two.
I now have NF installing the kitchen cabinets while DB is vacationing. Apparently you really can accomplish a lot in one day. ONE DAY.
(Plus Mom and I painted the two bedrooms and hall the other day and painted the den today!)
To draw out the excitement of the cabinets, I’ll post the painting pics first:
And here’s the kitchen!
If all works out, we’ll knock out some more painting tomorrow and this weekend and may be finished (except for the bathroom and impending touchups)!
DB gets back from vacation in a few days. I’m sure he’ll have something to say about NF’s work – but I’m telling you, it looks great!
